The Snowhotel is a unique hotel that is located in Kirkenes in the far north of Norway. The hotel is about 8 km from town and close to the intersection of the Russian, Norwegian and Finnish borders. Guests also have access to a restaurant and a sauna, along with free WiFi and on-site parking. During the long dark winter this area offers amazing views of the Northern Lights.
The rooms at the Kirkenes Snowhotel include the amazing arctic themed snow suites which are about 5 metres in diameter and feature snow sculptures, thermal bed spreads and sleeping bags graded to -35 ºC. The snow suites give you the impression that you are sleeping on ice however the beds are framed with ice blocks and comfortable mattresses. These rooms are only available in winter and feature a shared bathroom.
Wooden cottages are also available and these are inspired by traditional fishing huts. These huts feature large windows offering mountain views as well as private bathrooms.
Kirkenes Snowhotel would make a fantastic place to witness the Aurora Borealis for the first time, and while waiting for the dancing green lights to appear you can enjoy husky rides or snowmobiling. Northern Lights tours are available from the hotel to increase the chances of seeing them.
